Jungle Drums

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party. This is the line they used to teach typing back in the 70’s, but it suits our situation. Let’s not let the women carry the load here guys!

We had a wonderful turnout last Monday and the place looks terrific. I’d like to thank Allyson Rea and her husband Don (big strong muscles, yeah!!), Al and Jon Fraser, Laura Henson (Kassandra’s Mom), Michelle Nichol (Emily’s Mom) and Norm Dingwall. I think Chris Walker was there as well. Hope I didn’t miss anyone. If I did, let me know.

We also had offers of help from Audrey Holt, Virginia Bancur (from GLT!!!), Amanda Dwyer and Diane Spence for the Tuesday night, but the work was all done in one night. We hauled away a full bin of paneling insulation and junk. There is more garbage to truck away later, but the exposed wooden walls look great. We have the daytime shift for next week (the safety babysitters for the sandblasting fellow)covered by Edna Ferguson, Sally and Eddie Plackett, Jane Adair and Maureen and Chris (thanks, folks!).

Now for the dirty work! We need 6 workers for each of Tuesday, Wed and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 to sweep and bag the sand and whitewash removed from the walls (Relax, there is nothing toxic in there). So far, we have Lois, Al and Jane for Tuesday (still need 3 more) and Sharon Nimo and Melissa F for Wed. (need 4 more) and we have none for Thursday. We need strong, fit people to assist. Chris Gawley, Ryan Keane , Ben Coles, Matt Willis and your pals, we are dying to hear from you!!

Just email lfraser@fraserdirect.ca and say can do Thursday Aug 5 or whatever. The armoury is at the corner of Charles Street and Park Avenue . It’s the building just inside the park gates with the shiny green steel roof. Hope to see you there! Lois

Here is more info from Al, below:

John Proctor is starting the sandblasting on Tues. Aug. 3rd. Let the jungle drums announce this to the Globe Nation. As a reminder, we need a crew of people there every night, Tues. to Friday, to shovel sand. If the job finishes on Friday then there is no hurry for the final night of cleanup. Remind people that they should come supplied with gloves and a flat front shovel if they have one. We have masks for the dust.

I will be there on Tues. night to get this going but need to take off the Wed. night. The scissor lift to carry John is booked to be on site Tues. morning and I will be there to usher it into the building. We are hoping to shovel the sand and blastings back into the bags that the sand came from and store them outside the building until we can get rid of them.
