"Little Red" At Last

It's taken 17 years but she's finally done it.  Jennifer Marshall is happily preparing for the role of "Little Red" (otherwise known as, Little Red Riding Hood) in Globe's upcoming production of Into the Woods

It is a role that she has wanted to do since 1993 - the last time Globe mounted the Tony-award winning musical.  Marshall wasn't considered for the role the last go-around. She was, after all, only 11 at the time.

Growing up in Georgetown, Marshall always wanted to be onstage.  Her older brother, Craig, and her older sister, Shannon, were actively involved in musical theatre both at school and with Globe. Jennifer didn't want to be left behind. In fact, the love of musical theatre was a family affair in the Marshall household.  Jennifer remembers her parents listening to the soundtracks of their favourite musicals on the stereo at home and taking her to shows in Toronto.

"I still remember being amazed when the overture started at Les Miserables in Toronto.  I think I was 10 years old at the time.  I couldn't believe how much it sounded like the record!"  reminisces Marshall.

Educated at Harrison, Centennial and GDHS, Marshall  got her start with Globe shows in 1994, at the age of 12, as a towns person in The Music Man.

"I loved every minute of it.  It was so exciting to finally be onstage!" says Marshall.

Since then, Marshall has been involved in countless Globe shows including:  42nd Street (she loves to tap-dance), Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Crazy for You (in which her brother made his directorial debut), Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, and many, many more.

Marshall has taken an interest in all aspects of musical theatre both onstage and behind the scenes.  She currently serves on the Globe Board as its Vice-President and over the years has co-directed, produced, written cabarets, choreographed, managed props and more.

Into the Woods runs from November 19 – 27, 2010 at the John Elliott Theatre in Georgetown. For tickets, go to www.haltonhills.ca/theatre or call the John Elliott Theatre box office at (905) 877-3700.
